Acetal sheets, plates and rods are among the strongest and stiffest of all thermoplastics. Acetal and Delrin plastic materials are characterised by good fatigue life, low moisture sensitivity, and high resistance to solvents and chemicals.
Acetal products also contain good electrical properties. Homopolymer and Copolymer grade of acetal (Ertacetal brand name) are available including an enhanced bearing grade material.
Delrin is a semi crystalline engineering plastic that is beneficial to engineering applications, and is suited to CNC machining.
What is the difference between POM C (Acetal) and POM H (Delrin)?
Copolymer and homopolymer acetal's are very similar in many characteristics. However, there are some differences, e.g. POM-H has higher mechanical values, better wear resistance and is better for use in tribological applications (friction and wear). POM-C has better chemical resistance.
Gear wheels with small modulus, cams, heavily loaded bearings and rollers, bearing and gears with small clearances, valve seats, snap fit assemblies, dimensionally stable precision parts, electrically insulating components.
Acetal bearings offers excellent stability and good wear resistance in a variety of moist environments.
Porosity-free Acetron® GP acetal is intricately fabricated into this electrical test part with dozens of tight tolerance machined holes required at its centerline. (Prior material: Standard Acetal)
Delrin acetal delivers outstanding fatigue and impact resistance in this continuously loaded structural keel for a prosthetic device. (Prior materials: Nylon, Elastomer)
Acetron® GP maintains tight tolerances despite environmental and clean in place chemical exposure on dairy equipment. (Prior materials: Bronze, Stainless Steel)
Guide rollers machined from Acetron® GP rod operate smoothly and reliably in lift gate systems used to load cargo onto truck beds. (Prior materials: Cast Iron, Cast Aluminium)
In general, acetal's do not perform as well in abrasive wear applications as nylons. Compensation for moisture related growth generally allows Nylatron® nylons to be used for wet, abrasive applications. If your application requires dimensional consistency in an abrasive, high humidity or submerged environment, Ertalyte® PET-P will often offer improved performance. When it comes to outdoor applications, Ertacetal is not recommended because of its poor UV-resistance.

Acetal copolymer, Ertacetal C (POM-C) is more resistant against hydrolysis, strong alkalis and thermal-oxidative degradation than the acetal homopolymer Ertacetal H (POM-H).
Acetal homopolymer, Ertacetal H (POM-H) has higher mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness and creep resistance as well as a lower thermal expansion rate when compared to Ertacetal C (POM-C) and often it also presents a better wear resistance.
Delrin AF Blend (Ertacetal H-TF) is a combination of Teflon fibres evenly dispersed in a Delrin acetal resin. Much of the strength that is inherent in Ertacetal H is retained. Some properties change due to the addition of Teflon fibre which is softer, less stiff and slipperier than virgin acetal resin.
Compared with Ertacetal C and H, this material offers superior sliding properties. Bearings made of Ertacetal H-TF show low friction, long wear and are essentially free of stick-slip behaviour.
