Student Sponsorships

Bay Plastics are proud to showcase individuals and their work that we have sponsored over recent years. These talented students have used the high quality materials supplied by Bay Plastics to bring their designs to life.

Heidi Thomas - Surface Design using Perspex live edge

Heidi Thomas is in her 3rd year of study at Somerset College of Art. To date Heidi's designs have featured routing geometric patterns into wood to give depth to a flat surface. With the help of Fluorescent Perspex, specifically its 'Live Edge' effect, Heidi can create a 3D appearance from its light reflecting qualities.

She wants to create a contrast between the 'live edge' Perspex and wood that she already working with onto designing routed panels to construct sculptural wall panelling. The linear patterns will transcribe from wood to Perspex being hinged or inlayed. Heidi is using a range of Fluorescent Perspex coloured sheets which are all 3mm in thickness.

Heidi will be showing off her work at London's New Designers exhibition later this year. We wish her all the best in her studies and look forward to seeing the great new designs she can now create with Fluorescent Perspex.

You can see Heidi's work at the following exhibitions,
New Designers exhibition is open to the public from Thursday the 1st of July to Sunday the 3rd at the Business Design Centre, London.
Somerset College exhibition which will be from Monday the 21st to the 25th of June.

Amy Woodcock - Perspex Acrylic Lighting Displays

I would like to thank Bay Plastics for supplying me with the plastic for my lighting designs, which I produced for my graduating year from the Interdisciplinary Textile Design course at UWE Bristol. They gave me a lot of help and support throughout sampling and making my final designs. The course focuses on conceptually lead design products and we are encouraged to try and explore various materials so Bay gave me the freedom to sample and explore plastic as a material within the lights.

It has been a pleasure to work with the company, they have been very friendly and professional; a great source of help and encouragement that I needed being a young designer.
