Quadrant PPSU 1000 high performance properties make it an an amorphous thermoplastic that offers high impact strength and chemical resistance. Quadrant PPSU exhibits increased hydrolysis resistanceit, making it specifically engineered for repeated steam sterilisation applications.
Quadrant PSU 1000 is another amorphous thermoplastic offering a strong combination of excellent thermal, electrical and mechanical properties. Quadrant PSU is often used as an alternative to polycarbonate when higher resistances are needed.
Quadrant PEI rounds off this grouping of similar amorphous thermoplastics. PEI has high strength and a high temperature resistance of 170°C.
PPSU 1000 Characteristics:
PSU 1000 Characteristics
PEI 1000 Characteristics
PPSU 1000 is an amorphous high performance thermoplastic, offering better impact strength and chemical resistance than PEI 1000 and PSU 1000. PPSU 1000 also has superior hydrolysis resistance as measured by steam autoclaving cycles to failure, making it especially suited for repeated steam sterilisation applications.
PPSU 1000 Applications
PPSU 1000 is increasingly used for the manufacture of steralisation trays, dental and surgical instrument handles, and in fluid handling couplings and fitting applications. Showing a very high deflection temperature under load (205°C acc. to ISO 75 / Method A), PPSU is suitable for use in electronic assembly equipment and devices that must withstand solder temperatures.
PPSU 1000 Technical Notes
Since unfilled / unreinforced amorphous thermoplastics inherently possess a low wear resistance and high coefficient of friction, PPSU 1000 is not recommended for use in friction & wear applications (this also applies to PEI 1000 and PSU 1000).
PSU 1000 is a translucent (non-optical quality) amorphous thermoplastics material, offering a combination of excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. It often replaces polycarbonate whenever higher temperature resistance, improved chemical resistance or autoclavability is required.
PSU 1000 Applications
PSU 1000 is commonly used in food processing equipment (milk machines, pumps, valves, filtration plates, heat exchangers), for analytical instrumentation and all kinds of components which are subjected to repeated cleaning and sterilisation.
PSU 1000 Technical Notes
Amorphous thermoplastics like PSU 1000 are sensitive to stress cracking when in contact with polar solvents (e.g. ethyl alcohol). Environments, which might be completely harmless to unstressed parts, may cause stress cracking with highly stressed parts (this also applies to PEI 1000 and to a lesser extent also PPSU 1000).
PEI 1000 is an amber translucent (non-optical quality) amorphous thermoplastics material, offering high strength and heat resistance. It performs continuously to 170°C, making it ideal for high strength / high heat applications, and also for applications requiring consistent dielectric properties over a wide frequency and temperature range.
PEI 1000 Applications
PEI 1000 is extremely suitable for electrical / electronic insulators (including many semiconductor process components) and a variety of structural components requiring high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures. Thanks to its good hydrolysis resistance, PEI 1000 is capable of withstanding repeated autoclaving cycles.
PEI 1000 Technical Notes
Cooling liquids of the soluble oil type should not be used when machining PEI 1000 since they are likely to induce environmental stress cracking. For this material, the most suitable coolants are pure water or compressed air (this also applies to PPSU 1000 and PSU 1000).
