RADEL® PPSU
1000 (Polyphenylene Sulfone) black
RADEL PPSU
1000 is an amorphous high performance thermoplastic, offering better impact strength and chemical
resistance than PEI 1000 and PSU 1000. Radel PPSU 1000 also
has superior hydrolysis resistance as measured by steam
autoclaving cycles to failure, making it especially suited for repeated steam sterilisation applications.
RADEL PPSU
1000 Main Characteristics
- High
maximum allowable service temperature in air (180°C continuously)
- Good chemical and excellent
hydrolysis resistance (suitable for repeated steam
sterilisation)
- High
stiffness over a wide temperature range
- Very high impact strength
- Physiologically
inert (suitable for food contact)
- High dimensional stability
- Translucent,
non-optical quality (except for PPSU which is black)
-
Very good resistance against high energy radiation
(gamma & X-rays)
- Good
electrical insulation and dielectric properties
RADEL PPSU
1000 Applications
Radel PPSU 1000 is increasingly used for the manufacture of steralisation trays, dental and surgical instrument handles, and in fluid handling couplings and fitting applications. Showing a very high deflection temperature under load (205°C acc. to ISO 75 / Method A), RADEL PPSU is suitable for use in electronic assembly equipment and devices that must withstand solder temperatures.
Radel PPSU 1000 Technical Notes
Since unfilled / unreinforced amorphous thermoplastics inherently possess a low wear resistance and high coefficient of friction, Radel PPSU 1000 is not recommended for use in friction & wear applications (this also applies to ULTEM PE1 1000 and PSU 1000).
PSU 1000 (Polysulfone) natural (yellow, translucent)
PSU
1000 is a translucent (non-optical quality) amorphous thermoplastics material, offering a combination of excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. It often replaces polycarbonate whenever higher temperature resistance, improved chemical resistance or autoclavability is required.

PSU
1000 Applications
PSU 1000 is commonly used in food processing equipment (milk machines, pumps, valves, filtration plates, heat exchangers), for analytical instrumentation and all kinds of components which are subjected to repeated cleaning and sterilisation.
PSU 1000 Technical Notes
Amorphous thermoplastics like PSU 1000 are sensitive to stress cracking when in contact with polar solvents (e.g. ethyl alcohol). Environments, which might be completely harmless to unstressed parts, may cause stress cracking with highly stressed parts (this also applies to ULTEM PEI 1000 and to a lesser extent also RADEL PPSU 1000).
ULTEM® PEI 1000(Polyetherimide) natural (amber, translucent)
PEI 1000 is an amber translucent (non-optical quality) amorphous thermoplastics material, offering high strength and heat resistance. It performs continuously to 170°C, making it ideal for high strength / high heat applications, and also for applications requiring consistent dielectric properties over a wide frequency and temperature range.
ULTEM PEI 1000 Main Characteristics
- High
maximum allowable service temperature in air (170°C
continuously)
- Very good hydrolysis resistance (suitable for repeated steam
sterilisation)
- High
strength and stiffness over a wide temperatures range
- Inherent low flammability and low levels of smoke evolution during combustion
- Good dimensional stability
- Physiologically
inert (suitable for food contact)
- Very good resistance against high energy radiation
(gamma & X-rays)
- Very good
electrical insulation and dielectric properties
ULTEM PEI 1000 Application
ULTEM PEI 1000 is extremely suitable for electrical / electronic insulators (including many semiconductor process components) and a variety of structural components requiring high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures. Thanks to its good hydrolysis resistance, ULTEM PEI 1000 is capable of withstanding repeated autoclaving cycles.
ULTEM PEI 1000 Technical Notes
Cooling liquids of the soluble oil type should not be used when machining ULTEM PEI 1000 since they are likely to induce environmental stress cracking. For this material, the most suitable coolants are pure water or compressed air (this also applies to RADEL PPSU 1000 and PSU 1000).
